Solid Foundation for Manatee/Sarasota History

This is an extraordinary scholarly work by Janet Snyder Matthews. Many historians have since drawn on this to augment their own work. If you want the historical framework to understand Manatee/Sarasota history, this should be your starting point. Well written, easy for the lay person to understand.

Being a transplant to Florida, and seeing as much of the state as we have been able to, it's very interesting to know how many of those places you can relate to while reading this book. It is well written, and the author doesn't find it necessary to "talk down" to her readers. Love the book.

Had just what I was looking for!

Working on my family ancestry requires a lot of research and this book about the Bradenton, Florida area provided a lot of information on the Gates line and others connected to my family tree. It is always wonderful to be able to add more "leaves to the branches" of ones family tree!
